Obituary for MINNIE MINEKO FUJITA

MINNIE MINEKO FUJITA

Minnie was born November 28, 1918 in Kealia Landing, Kauai. Her life long passion was the arts and she pursued this passion through college at the University of Hawaii, then in a masters program in Art at Yale University. Minnie had many adventures and described experiences like crossing the Pacific Ocean during wartime with the ship running without lights. She attended Yale when the undergraduate college was all male and she was one of the few females attending graduate school in Art.

Minnie mentored many of her students in her art classes at Kauai High School and for more than 30 years at McKinley High School and continued as an educator becoming the art director for the State of Hawaii Department of Education.

Minnie passed away suddenly on November 3, 2018 just before her 101st birthday and will be missed by her sister-in-law, Helen Fujita and her nieces, Gail Karlen (David) and Dr. Jan Fujita (Keith Fujio) and her nephew, Dr. Jon Fujita (Dr. Brenda Nishikawa) and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
