Obituary for CYNTHIA LEE (KALERGIS) ULMAN

May the longtime sun shine upon you,
All love surround you,
And the pure light within you
Guide you on your way

‘Let the light be your guide’ (etched dad and mom’s headstone)

Cynthia Lee (Kalergis) Ulman, passed into the next life with her loving husband, Robert C. Ulman and her sister in law, Marie Miller (Ohio) at her side.
Cinde was born in Lowell, Massachusettes on November 27, 1957, the fifth of six children born to the late Nicholas and Virginia Kalergis and god-daughter of the late Gregory and Pota Kalergis. Affectionately nicknamed ‘Dodo-bird’, Cinde grew up in Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1975. She received her Associates degree from Colby Sawyer College, New London NH, in 1977; and earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, graduating cum laude from Central Connecticut State College in 1979. Cinde worked in the Accounting department at Aetna Insurance, Hartford CT for two years. She traveled to Europe in 1981, visiting the Netherlands and upon her return, she became a licensed Certified Public Accountant and accepted a position with Coopers – Lybrand in Manchester, NH. Always a lover of the ocean and warm weather, Cinde left New England and moved to Honolulu in 1986 where she became Chief Financial Officer for her uncle’s start-up business, Designs by the Sea and met the love of her life, Robert. During her years in Honolulu, Cinde also worked for Bradley Holdings, the Honolulu Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and was business manager for Robert’s company, All Waikiki Electric.
As a child, Cinde adored cats and was always quick to persuade her parents to welcome a new kitten into her home. Even before she was diagnosed with MS, Cinde advocated for programs that focus on a person’s ability versus their disability. Cinde always put the needs of others before her own. Cinde was courageous, strong-willed, stubborn at times, quick-witted and a steadfast friend to many.
Besides her husband Robert, Cinde will be deeply missed and forever in the hearts of her sisters Joanna Eckstrom and her husband Robert of Wilton, NH; Karen Irene Kalergis of Austin, TX; Lani Becker of Vero Beach FL; Lisa Tompkins of Seabrook NH; and her brother Nicholas G Kalergis and his wife, Leann of Westford MA; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marie Miller, Janet Ulman Grim and Frank Ulman in Ohio; her cherished cousins, nieces and nephews; her Honolulu ‘adopted’ family – Re-Anne, … her kitties; and the myriad of friends whose lives Cinde touched.
