Obituary for BHARAT KUMAR KINARIWALA

Bharat Kumar Kinariwala, 92, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 28, 2019. Born on October 14, 1926 in Ahmedabad, India. His family was deeply involved in the Indian Independence movement and Bharat, himself, was jailed for resistance activities at the age of 16.
He studied Electrical Engineering at Banaras University and received his PhD from the University of California Berkeley in 1957. He then worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey for ten years as a member of the technical staff. He joined the UH Manoa Department of Electrical Engineering in 1966, serving as the Department Chair in 1969-75 and 1978-81 and retired in 1996. Bharat was a renowned researcher and educator, author of at least three books and numerous technical papers. Career highlights: In 1967 he served as a delegate to the Popov Society Meeting in Moscow, USSR. In 1976 he was invited by Secretary of State Henry Kissinger to attend a National Meeting on Science, Technology and Development.
Bharat was a long-time member of the Hawaii Yacht Club and loved sailing. He was happiest celebrating life with friends, family, great food and wine! Survived by wife Junko Mori, daughters and their spouses: Neela Kinariwala and Dan Dickey, Maya and Marty Milster, and three grandchildren: Garrett Milster, Mira Dickey, and Corrie Milster. Services and Celebration of Life are private.
