There are condolences waiting approval on AIKO's Tribute wall

Aiko Kameya Gerard, 91, of Honolulu passed away peacefully on February 5, 2019. She was born in Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan, attended college at the university there where she received a diploma in Education and taught art. She also worked in Tokyo for GHQ (General Headquarters) - the Allied occupation of Japan under General MacArthur.
In 1964 Aiko moved to Honolulu, studied art at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and received a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1980 and a Masters of Fine Arts in 1987.
Aiko Kameya was an accomplished abstract painter within the art community of Hawaii. A good friend and fellow artist recently wrote "Aiko's sensitive paintings showed who she truly was-a gentle, compassionate individual. One could always recognize her paintings by her unique personal use of colors and shapes."
Her paintings are in many collections including the Honolulu Museum of Art, the State Foundation on Culture and Arts, the Bank of Hawaii and First Hawaiian Bank. She has shown her work in numerous exhibits through her art career and received numerous awards by the State Foundation on Culture and Arts and by the Hawaiian Artist League in 1987 and by the Mark Masuoka Design Inc. award in 1988.
Aiko enjoyed gathering her friends including many artists in her Makiki home especially for New Years Eve. She was also a generous donor to the Hawaiian Humane Society due to her love of animals, especially her poodle at home and a series of cats she cared for at her Chinatown art studio.
She will always be remembered by her wide smile and ready laugh and was blessed with a happy and healthy life.
A private service will be held. Donations may be made in her name to the Hawaiian Humane Society.
